September opens with a quarter point Federal Reserve rate hike, taking the benchmark range to 3.75% to 4%, and a signal that another increase could follow later this year. For community financial institutions, that lands alongside a shifting ISO 20022 timeline, a busy regulatory calendar, and a growing case for building fee revenue through international payments. This month's issue covers:
A new case study on eliminating duplicate wire entry
The latest ISO 20022 deadline delays and cross-border payments news
How international payments services can help win small business accounts
A banking meme on dual entry 🐿️🐿️
Acceleron COO Elizabeth Downey spent several days at Fiserv Forum in working sessions with community banks and credit unions. Travis Credit Union, Valliance Bank, Dream First Bank, and other institutions shared how they're approaching international wire processing and where their teams still lose time. Those conversations keep our correspondent banking software roadmap grounded in what community financial institutions need.
Re-keying the same wire into two systems slows down staff and invites errors. Legacy Bank wanted to remove that step without pulling retail employees away from the customer at the counter. Its new international wire workflow lets branch staff initiate and complete wires and deliver the required customer disclosures in the same conversation. The full case study explains how the bank got there. Read the Legacy Bank case study →

More than half of small businesses (57%) buy from overseas suppliers, which makes paying those suppliers a routine banking need rather than an edge case. A community bank that can send international payments smoothly has a real advantage when a business decides where to keep its operating accounts, and each of those relationships can add wire fee revenue to non-interest income.
Acceleron CEO Damon Magnuski explains how modern cross-border payments infrastructure lets banks serve small business clients without adding operational burden. Read Damon's full article →
The rate increase wasn't the only headline for community financial institutions this month. The Senate voted down the Clarity Act, a bill that would have established a regulatory framework for digital assets, leaving stablecoin and crypto oversight unsettled. Regulators kept moving on other fronts:
Treasury advanced its stablecoin rulemaking
The FDIC proposed standards for bank and fintech partnerships
The CFPB revived its open banking rule
Fintech companies continued to acquire banks
New guidance clarified what banks may ask customers without tipping them off to a suspicious activity report (SAR)
Our full breakdown explains what each development means for compliance teams and community bank strategy. Read the community banking news update →
The ISO 20022 migration remains one of the biggest operational questions in correspondent banking, but the deadlines are moving. Swift has extended its structured address requirement after many financial institutions reported they weren't ready. In the U.S., the Federal Reserve has delayed the Fedwire ISO 20022 migration by a year, from November 2026 to November 2027, giving community banks more time to prepare.
The latest Global Correspondent Banking Monitor tracks several other shifts in international payments:
Swift's first live blockchain settlement
China's effort to build an alternative to the Swift network
A $2.75 billion fintech acquisition reshaping cross-border commerce

Acceleron's development team is expanding the platform's inbound payment capabilities, with a focus on faster processing and clearer visibility into incoming international payments. In the video below, Technical Operations Specialist Fernanda Girelli explains what's being built and what it means for clients.
Ask an operations team how they process international wires, and many will describe the same routine: one system for domestic wires, a second portal for international, and a lot of retyping in between. It's one of the most common workflow problems community banks and credit unions bring to us.
Dual entry carries real costs:
Each time a wire is keyed in a second time, the chance of an error goes up
Each additional platform adds a login for staff to manage
Each extra vendor adds another relationship and another process to oversee
Our banking meme breaks it down:
This encore is completely unnecessary. The alternative is international wire automation built into the core platform your team already uses. Acceleron integrates with Fiserv Payments Exchange, Aptys PayLOGICS, Pathfinder WITS, and Braid, so staff can send international wires from the same interface they use for domestic wires. There is no separate portal and nothing to retype.
That simplicity matters for growth too. Banks that want to expand international wire volume, and the fee income that comes with it, need a process their teams can handle without adding headcount or complexity.
